Could a hybrid system work? Existing members might rather pay higher dues if there was no way to increase their life insurance. Members-to-be might prefer higher insurance premiums especially if they're young and can get a low rate. Though the young always have to consider the hungry ghost of inflation when pricing insurance plans.
Maybe some kind of matrix could be made to satisfy the cost of preservation differently for different people.
I guess that's kind of what is happening as it is.
At the end of it, even though I see the need to raise income to address the underfunding issue, what TDK says is really true. Personally, I worry all the time about finding the funds to cover my insurance premium and Alcor dues. I worry about them more than other bills although they are less than most other bills. That's because they more important to me than, say, satellite TV service or whatever. But cost is a significant issue, and membership would go up if more people could afford it. I want to see the future for many reasons but it would be reason enough just to find out how this problem gets solved.
